Chronic pain is long-term pain that does not go off within the usual recovery time. It can last for up to months to years. People can have chronic pain after a major surgery due to diabetic neuropathic pain, arthritis, or due to mental health problems such as depression. From studies, it is found that women are more likely to suffer from chronic pain than men.

Electric-shock-like pain, muscle or joint discomforts, difficulty performing daily activities, loss of energy, anxiety, stress, losing interest in activities, difficulty concentrating, etc., are some of the symptoms of chronic pain. There are two types of chronic pain: neuropathic pain and nociceptive pain.

Chronic pain can be treated with medications such as pain medicines, antidepressants, or anticonvulsants. Cognitive behavioral therapy, occupational therapy, acupuncture, or aromatherapy are also available to address chronic pain.
